who am i?

hi! i’m sam, lecturer in linguistics at the university of amsterdam. this is my (largely unsuccessful) venture to talk about the things i’m interested in in a way that’s more structured than just tweeting into the void.

my interests include, but are not limited to:

  • linguistics, particularly phonetics and phonology

  • language learning (i’m currently learning arabic on duolingo)

  • tv, particularly doctor who, dimension 20 and the many iterations of drag race

  • the international linguistics olympiad (IOL)

  • film (see my letterboxd page)

  • game design (check out woordhex, my dutch-language take on the nyt’s spelling bee)

why subscribe?

by subscribing, you’ll get my blog posts in your email inbox. don’t worry about clutter, i haven’t updated in years and probably won’t ever post more than once per month.
